How to Water:

New Trees, Shrubs + Perennials

Here you can find how to water and take care of new trees, shrubs, and perennials.

These are general guidelines for average temp and average soil conditions.

Apply water directly to root ball while also keeping backfill soil moist. This will encourage roots to expand beyond the root ball and into the backfill soil.

Tree bags can also be used to provide a slow delivery of water over the root balls. Fill bags every 5 days for a full growing season.

How Much Water?

1.5 – 2 gallons each watering or 10 seconds using a garden hose.

Time Frame

1 – 2 weeks – Once daily

3 – 8 weeks – Every 2 – 3 days

9 – 12 weeks – Twice a week

How Much Water?

Shrubs – 1/2 – 1 gallon each watering

Perennials – 1/4 – 1/2 gallon each watering

Time Frame

1 – 3 weeks – Once daily (2x/day when hot)

4 – 8 weeks – Every 2 – 3 days

9 – 12 weeks – Twice a week
